Birthday Bouquet

My Mom's birthday is in April and while she doesn't like us buying her gifts I wanted to do something for her. I decided to make her a little easy care birthday bouquet. I used the Forever Young Cricut cartridge to cut the both layers for the flowers. I used a bright pink card stock for the back layer and a yellow and pink stripped paper from the DCWV Flower Stack for the top layer. I cut the flowers at 2 1/2" and clued the two layers together using Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive. I then used buttons for the flower centers and used the quick dry adhesive to adhere those as well. The stems are some plastic stripped straws that I picked up at the dollar store. The container is one that I got on clearance at Michaels after Valentines Day for .59 cents. The ribbon is some I had on hand. I used some glass pebbles inside the container so the flowers would stand up. It went together really quick and I think she will like it.

I apologize that it isn't a better picture. I am hoping that by next weekend I am past this cold bug I have had for the last week. It has really wore me out and left me feeling less then creative but I hated to let a whole weekend go by without doing something. Thanks for looking.

Rock-a-bye Baby

The challenge this week on the Gypsy MB was the Gypsy jumped over the moon. We were to use the stretch and flatten features on the Gypsy to create something in honor or the Nursery Rhymes cartridge being released. I decided to make this Pedestal card and used the little boy on the rocking horse from ACY for my main image.

When my son was little he had one of those Wonder Pony's and he would sit on that thing with his cowboy hat on and ride it forever. I used that for my inspiration. I used the cowboy hat from PPDU and resized it using the stretch and flatten techniques to get it the right size for the rocking horse image which was sized at 3". I welded the hat to both the shadow and the base cut of the image after rotating it to sit on the boy's head where I wanted it.

I used Lyrical Letters for the phrase and created a shadow for it again using the stretch and flatten technique.  To use this technique with your Gypsy you need to deselect the little yellow link under the height and width boxes. With this link grayed out if you change the height (stretch) the width won't change if  you change the width (flatten) the height won't change. If the link is selected and yellow in color as you change the height the width also changes.

Turtle Birthday Card

I made this birthday card today for the Cricut Cardz Challenge using Paisley and Sweet Treats cartridge. The card base is 4 1/2" X 6 1/4". The layers are 4 1/4" x 6 and 4" x 5 3/4".  The Turtle and its layers was cut from the Paisley cartridge at 2 1/2". The party hat is from the Sweet Treats cartridge and I cut the hat and its layers at 2". the ribbon is some I picked up at Michaels. I assembled the turtle and the hat with my Zig Two Way Glue Pen. I added it to the card front with one layer of foam tape.  The ribbon was tied using the My Pink Stampers cheater method. To give the card a more party flair I used turquoise stickles on the hat, cotton candy stickles on the cheeks, and fruit punch and eucalyptus stickles on the cherries. I am pleased how it turned out. Thanks for looking.

Votive Candle Lantern

I was at Joann's last week and picked up a project sheet that I liked that I wanted to try to create something similar with  my Cricut. I got the chance today. I created all of this on my Gypsy. I started with a square from Plantin Schoolbook cartridge and re-sized it so it was 12" X 3.5". I then took the scalloped border from Plantin school book sized it at 1" X 6" and then copied and pasted it again on my rectangle next to the first one and grouped all the images together and welded them together. I then took the circle again from Plantin Schoolbook and put 1/4" circles in each scallop. For the cutouts on the actual lantern I used some leaves from Storybook at 1 1/4" a flower from Accent Essentials cut at 3/4" and a tear drop from Sweet Treats which I think is actually the flame to a candle cut at 1/4". I used a small square glass candle holder I got from the dollar store and wrapped the cutout around it. I used some Scor-tape to secure the edges together. I didn't have one of those flameless candles so used a small tea light to take my picture but for safety sakes would use those flameless candles. I created the project for the 3 +1= Success Challenge on the Gypsy Chat thread on the Cricut MB.

Luck O' the Irish Card

Just Buggin has a challenge going on to make something green for St. Patrick's Day. Here is what I came up with. It was a lot of fun to make. The card base is from the A Child's Year cricut cartridge and was cut at 5 1/2" and will fit an A2 envelope. I used some Core'denations  Gemstone card stock for the card base. The hat is also from A Child's Year and was cut at 2 1/2". I put a piece of green card stock behind the hat band and the shamrock in the hat and then to give them some bling I used some lime green stickles. The ribbon is from a small Martha Stewart pack that I picked up at Big Lots. The stamp is a dollar stamp I got at Craft Warehouse. The tag that I stamped the sentiment on I cut also from A Child's Year. I re sized it with my Gypsy to fit the stamp. The hat is attached with foam tape to pop it up. Thanks for looking.

Circle Card

There was a challenge in the Gypsy Forum on the Cricut Message board for a project created using circles. The Cricut Cardz Challenge had a challenge to make a Spring project using, flowers, butterflies, or birds. So, I thought I would do both challenges with one card. Here is what I came up with.

The card base is from the Sentimental cartridge and cut at 5 1/2", the pink circle is from the George and Basic Shapes cartridge and cut at 5". I ran the pink circle through my Cuttlebug using the Sizzix trio dots folder. The flowers were cut from the Forever Young cartridge and cut at 1 1/2". I cut the shadow and both layers. The word Enjoy I welded with my Gypsy and is the font from A Child's Year. I used buttons for the flower centers and used Stickles to give the flowers some glitz. I cut a butterfly from Gypsy Wanderings at 1 1/4" and used the Cotton Candy Stickles to give the butterfly some sparkle. I then covered everything with Glossy Accents to further jazz it up.

Party Hat

I just received two new cartridges in the mail this week and with work didn't even get them out of the clam shell packaging until yesterday. I also received a sample of some American Craft glitter paper that I was anxious to try out on my Cricut. So, last night I made this quick card using my new Sweet Treats cartridge and the glitter paper. The card base is a standard A2 card. The patterned paper mat is 5 1/4" X 4". The party hat is from page 43 of the handbook. I cut the base layer of the hat from some mirror finish paper from a DCWV Paper in blue. I also use the same paper to cut the layers for the hat using the layer key, the heart and the pompom on top of the hat. The main layer of the hat I cut from the glitter paper. This is some really nice thick glitter paper. To cut the hat I had my blade set at 6 my pressure to max and did multi-cut 2. I tried cutting the sentiment out from the glitter paper but just couldn't get it, so I ended up using the shiny blue paper. I am not sure of the color name but I think it is Raspberry. I cut everything at 3 1/2" for the hat. I attached the pompom with some foam tape and used Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive to put the rest of the hat together. The hat is attached to the card base with one layer of foam tape. I then cut the sentiment, "how old?" from the Lyrical Letters cartridge found on page 70 of the handbook using the Loop Dee Loo creative feature. I cut the sentiment at 1 1/2".

This was a hard project to photograph because of the shiny paper. I was finally able to get a fairly good picture taken from a little bit of an angle. The photo still does not do just to the glitter paper, but you can see how sparkly and shiny it is. Thanks for looking.

No Post and Glitter Paper!

Just wanted to take a minute to let everyone know I haven't forgotten you. Last weekend was crazy and I just didn't get a chanced to get anything made and posted. After another hectic week at work I am home until Monday so hope I get more done this weekend. I am very excited, I just got two new cartridges, Forever Young and Sweet Treats. So I hope to play with them this weekend. There are some great flowers on these two cartridges and I want to make my mom a bouquet for her birthday so I think I will be experimenting with that this weekend. I also volunteered to serve as a guinea pig for Kim at Cutters Creek. She is carrying the American Craft glitter paper and because she was having delays with her order on some of the colors she wanted to get samples out for some of us to provide honest feed back to the rest in the group. If  you haven't seen this paper you must. It is some of the most fantastic glitter paper I have ever seen. It is a nice thick paper and the glitter doesn't rub off. I am also hoping to make a project with that this weekend. If you would like to see the paper or order some yourself give Kim a visit at Cutters Creek.
