Retirement Card

20110522_3

I have a coworker who is retiring on Friday. This is the card I made for him. I started with a piece of bamboo colored card stock cut to 10” X 7” and scored and folded to make a 5” X 7” card base. The patterned paper I used is from Cloud 9 Tropical Stripe. The paper is two sided and I used the blue side for my first mat cut to 4 3/4” X 5 3/4”. I then used the striped side and cut a mat 4 1/2” X 5 1/2”.  I then cut a scrap piece of bamboo cardstock to 5 1/2” and tore it to give it a rough edge. I didn’t measure the height of the piece but I think it is about 1 1/2” wide. I used some Tea Dye and Wild Honey distress ink and inked the entire piece to help it look more like sand. I then lightly sprayed the piece with some antique lace glimmer mist. I then attached it to the card front. The palm trees were cut from the Life’s A Beach cricut cartridge at 4.4” . I ran the tree tops through my cuttlebug and embossed them with the Victoria A2 embossing folder.  I attached this straight to the card and put the end of the trunks just under the “sand”. The chair is also from the Life’s A Beach cartridge and is cut at 2.7”. I used some Weathered Wood distress ink to ink the char to give it a weathered look and help the slats stand out. I attached it to the card front with some foam tape. To finish the card I added few shell embellishments that I had to the sand. The top upper right corner of the striped paper I folded down to show and added a red button with some brown and white striped twine tied in a knot. I stamped my sentiment with some Walnut Stain distress ink.  I finished the inside with a small piece of the striped paper and added another stamped sentiment that says Enjoy Your Retirement also stamped in Walnut Stain ink. I am envious that he is able to retire. I have a 3 or 4 more years. I hope he enjoys the card and his retirement.

Fun in the Sun

Wow, our high yesterday was 85, the first time we have been over 80 degrees since last September. So to celebrate the unofficial one day start of summer I created this card, Fun in the Sun. The card is 5 1/2" X 8 1/2". I ran the base through my Cuttlebug and embossed it with the swirls embossing folder. I thought it would make it look like wind and waves. I cut the sand from the Everyday Paper Dolls cricut cartridge. I used my Gypsy and the real dial size feature to resize the cut. I cut it once at 2" and again at 3" with a width of 5 1/2". I layered these cuts to make a wider "beach" for my card.

The rest of the cuts for this card are from the Life is a Beach cricut cartridge. The umbrella and its layer were cut at 4". The sun and flip flops base cut and the layer cut at 2". I used my Gypsy to weld the phrase, Fun in the Sun using the font available on the cartridge. This too was cut at 2". I also used my Gypsy to create a shadow for the phrase. To add some bling I outlined the yellow part of the suns outer rays with some yellow stickles. It doesn't show up very well in the photo. The sea shells are from some Jolee Boutique Beach Stickers.

Update: Okay, Okay, my daughter just pointed out that the words are not quite correct. I originally welded them to be a block but once I laid out my card I changed my mind. I never, ever, ever noticed that the words now said Fun the and In Sun. I apologize for the goof.

Father's Day Card

Here is Father's Day card I made this afternoon using the Life's a Beach cricut cartridge. The sailboat and its layers were cut at 4". My card base is 4 1/2" X 6". The striped patterned paper is from the DCWV Summer Dreams paper stack and was cut at 4 1/4" X 5 3/4". The sentiment was stamped using a Studio G $1 clear stamp that I picked up from Craft Warehouse. I put a small green button in each corner of the card and these are from a small $1 container of buttons I picked up at Michaels. I plan to send this card to my step-dad so wanted to keep it fairly simple. Thanks for looking.

Lighthouse Card - My Pink Stamper Challenge

I just recently got the Life is a Beach cricut cartridge and to use the lighthouse cut to make a Father's Day for the challenge on the My Pink Stamper blog.  The card is 4 1/2" X 6". I cut the lighthouse and its layers at 3 1/2". I had some paper in the DCWV Stack 6 paper pack that looked like sand and used a cut from Everyday Paper Dolls that I cut it at 4 1/2" in width using the Real Dial Size button. The sea gulls are also from the Lifes a Beach cartridge and cut them at 1 1/2". The clouds and seashells are from the Create-a-Critter cartridge. I used some gray chalk to provide some definition to the clouds and the sea gulls. I also used some maize colored chalk to provide some definition to the sand and the scallop shell. The star fish I used some peach colored chalk on top of it to give it an orange tinge to look like the star fish I see at our beach. I also used the new Hide Contour feature on my Gypsy to hide the face that would typically cut out on the star fish. I love that feature of the new update released today. The stamp is a Studio G $1 stamp that I picked up at Craft Warehouse. Thanks for looking.
